Southwest to Midwest

Yesterday we drove from monsoon rain in Flagstaff to 108 degrees in Phoenix. We spent the night near the airport before getting on the plane early in the morning to fly to Minneapolis. We had dinner last night at a college neighborhood sushi place happy hour. We had Stella and sushi and listened to loud music like the Clash and Led Zeppelin. It was fun and sooo cheap!
Tonight we are in 76 degree weather, flat, green, watery and leafy Minnesota. We had dinner in a small town diner - no music, no lighting, no college students. It seems that everyone here has worked hard for about 65 - 75 years. The waitress was a high school girl running around doing everything and smiling the whole time. Everything was heavy and greasy and yummy. I would not want to eat like that more than once a year.
Tomorrow morning we drive 45 minutes to pick up our 2 daughters who have been away at camp for 2 weeks. We have had a nice break. It was a good experience for all of us, and I am really looking forward to seeing them and hearing all about it!

The Space Around Me

It's a beautiful cool morning in the mountains. We had lots of rain yesterday so everything cooled down and woke up. The birds are twittering (really) like crazy. I am up early because we had to take the last item into the living room - our bed. The contents of the back three rooms are now in the garage and living room. We have filled the recycling bin and the garbage can and made 4 trips to the goodwill.
It is so nice to have clean empty space and I have a strong impulse to chuck everything else and live like a monk.
We have lived in this house for 13 years! Yikes! I can not believe it! We finally succumbed to the need for some home improvement. We put in a new kitchen last winter. We are just now getting the tiles on the backsplash. We painted the workroom/ my studio for the first time ever and are getting carpet put into the rooms. When it is all done, we are only going to put half the stuff back.
It is a very painful process - probably why we put it off for so long - but I think it will all be worth it when we have a "purified" environment.

This is all partly at the root of a project I have brewing. More details to come ....

Etsy Treasuries!

I like to keep an eye on the etsy treasuries to see some of the best that etsy has to offer. It is a great way to sift through the thousands of items, play with combining colors, images and themes, and get to know some of the really kind and wonderful people on ETSY!

Welcome to my BLOG...

Hi! This is my new blog! I finally took the plunge! As a textile artist, I spend a lot of time creating with my hands and using the non-verbal part of my brain. I have been wanting to get back into writing, so this is the main reason for the blog. It will be my daily verbal exercise (dve)

There are other reasons as well.
One is that I want a venue for sharing my work, my ideas, my plans, projects, and adventures.
Another is that I have met so many people in the "virtual community", that I want a way to communicate more effectively in that sphere.
Another is that... well, there are lots of other reasons I can go into another day!

So, welcome to my blog! I hope you find it interesting and inspiring! I will try to keep it coherent and digestable! I look forward to a creative interchange so please feel free to post comments etc.

Cheers,

Sheila
